Overview

Student Health Services (SHS) provides basic health care needs and works collaboratively with students to achieve their desired physical and emotional health goals while helping them move forward with their academic pursuits.

Services

SHS provides primary health care by licensed and experienced medical practitioners. All LCSC students are eligible to utilize SHS services. Providers are available by appointment; walk-ins will be scheduled accordingly. Services include evaluation and treatment of minor injuries and illnesses, and wellness exams.  Students having personal, emotional or mental health related concerns may be referred to the Student Counseling Center (SCC).  The SHS nurse can provide minor assessments, quick screens (influenza, mono, strep, UTI’s - if requested by provider), immunizations, minor wound dressing changes, blood pressure and temperature checks, and on-site lab draws. In addition, SHS provides both individual and population based educational programming and presentations.

Additional services include: Over the counter medications, flu shot clinic, STD testing, and teaching resources and material for many different health and wellness topics. .

Fees

A fee is charged for each office visit with the health care practitioner (fee varies depending on level of visit) and additional charges are assessed for any further testing ordered by a provider. There also may be minimal fees to see a registered nurse, depending on the service requested. SHS currently bills Blue Cross and Regence Blue Cross/Blue Shield but non-contracted insurance companies can be billed with the understanding that fees many not be covered by the insurance company. The student will be responsible for any outstanding balance not covered by their insurance.  Copays are due at time of service; insurance will be billed accordingly and statements sent to the student (or student's responsible party, if indicated). Payment arrangements are available, but all accounts must be paid in full by the end of each semester. All outstanding accounts will result in a ‘hold’ being placed on the student account until the account is paid in full (a hold includes not being able to register for classes, receive diploma, etc.)

Confidentiality

All patient/student information is confidential. SHS is governed by FERPA and HIPAA federal law and all medical records are handled accordingly.  Student information and medical records are kept confidential within SHS. However, records may be released through a written authorization by the student/patient or as otherwise authorized by Idaho state or federal law,
