The Idaho Physical Therapist Assistant Consortium Program at LCSC prepares students for employment as physical therapist assistants (PTA). The PTA functions through the direction of a physical therapist (PT) to implement the PT's plan of care. The ultimate goal of physical therapy is to aid patients and clients in their return to maximal function. PTA students are instructed in thinking processes and skills such as therapeutic exercise, orthopedic and neurological interventions, therapeutic modalities, and the art of patient care. In addition to patient treatment courses, students study the basic sciences of anatomy, physiology, clinical pathology, and kinesiology. Clinical education experiences are integrated throughout the curriculum and offer students the opportunity to practice the techniques learned and practiced each semester. The program is designed to be completed in two years following the completion of necessary prerequisites.

Effective November 11, 2015 the Idaho Consortium for Physical Therapist Assistant Education received notice of Withhold Initial Accreditation by the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education (1111 North Fairfax Street, Alexandria, VA, 22314; phone: 703-706-3245; email: accreditation@apta.org).

The Consortium applied for, and was granted a Request for Expedited Reconsideration. This requires the program to submit documentation related to specified citations and host an onsite visit made by a select panel of reviewers. All citations were judged to be in conditional compliance which means that the program has in place most, but not all, of the elements necessary to meet all aspects of the evaluative criteria.

During this time the program is continuing instruction and retains its Candidate for Accreditation status (see below).

The Consortium does not express or imply a guarantee that accreditation will be granted but all efforts will be made by each member institution in the Idaho Consortium for Physical Therapist Assistant Education to remove the withhold status and gain accreditation.

Effective November 6, 2013, the Idaho Physical Therapist Assistant Consortium Program has been granted Candidate for Accreditation status by:

Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education
1111 North Fairfax Street
Alexandria, VA  22314
phone: 703-706-3245
email: accreditation@apta.org

Candidate for Accreditation is a pre-accreditation status of affiliation with the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education that indicates that the program may matriculate students in technical courses and that the program is progressing toward accreditation. Candidate for Accreditation is not an accreditation status nor does it assure eventual accreditation.
