The Lewis-Clark State College’s Auto Mechanics Technology Program is a National Automotive Technician Education Foundation (NATEF) and a National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) accredited program, holding the top-level Master Automobile Service Technician (MAST) certification.
The Specialist certificate is for students that have complete the Automotive Technology Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree, or the two-year Advanced Technical Certificate (ATC). It is also for ASE certified individuals, (holding A1- A8 certifications), that have been working in the automotive field for two or more years at a qualifying service facility. The purpose of the specialized certificate is to provide students with training on advanced technologies that are above and beyond the AAS degree and/or the ATC technical certificate. Students must achieve competencies in course work before becoming eligible to move into the advanced areas of instruction. Students will receive live shop experience, directed lab work, and theoretical lecture, giving the student a robust understanding and competency of the subject.
As part of the completion process for each course, students must pass all parts of the ASE/NATEF certification tests to qualify for graduation. Upon completion of the Auto Mechanics Technology Specialist Certificate program, in combination with the skills learned in the AAS and ATC program, the student will have demonstrated competencies in the following ASE/NATEF certification areas:

• Automatic Transmission and Transaxle (A2)
• Manual Drivetrain and Axles (A3)
• Steering and Suspension (A4)
• Brakes (A5)
• Electrical / Electronic Systems (A6)
• Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (A7)
• Engine Performance (A8)
• Light Diesel Engines (A9)
• Automotive Service Consultant (C1)
• Safety, Maintenance, Light Repair (G1)
• Advanced Engine Performance (L1)
• Light Duty Hybrid / Electric Vehicles (L3)
Enrollment Requirements:
• New enrollment is on a first-come first-serve basis as determined by the student's faculty advising date. Currently enrolled students will have course priority over new students.
• All students must have a current valid Driver’s License and have had no DUI’s in the past 12 months, and be insurable. If you have any questions regarding your driver's license, please contact the Technical & Industrial Division Office prior to submitting your application.
• All new students must be interviewed by a faculty member of the Auto Mechanics Technology Department prior to approval for the Specialist Certificate program. Applicants are required to show their qualifications and experience to validate they meet the minimum qualifications.
