Early Childhood Development ITC

The Early Childhood Development program ITC certificate prepares students with skills to work at an entry-level in early childhood positions that pertain to careers with children ages 0-5. Examples may include a childcare provider or an early childhood classroom aide. The program emphasizes cognitive development, fine/gross motor physical development, social and emotional development, language and literacy development and self-help skills of children birth through age eight.

Entry into Early Childhood Development Courses requires that students work with children in practicum settings. Students enrolling in these courses are required to undergo a criminal background check before the beginning of the second semester or students will not be allowed to register. Instructions on how to initiate the background check procedure will be provided by the program advisor. Upon completion of the Early Childhood Development Technical Certificate, students will:

o    Establish and maintain a safe, healthy learning environment

o    Advance physical, intellectual, and linguistic competence

o    Support social and emotional development and provide positive guidance for young children

o    Foster positive and productive relations with families and the community

o    Ensure well-run, purposeful programs responsive to participant needs

o    Maintain professionalism and ethical conduct

Completion of a Technical Skills Assessment is required.
